What is Reiki?

We live in a world of energy, flowing at variable frequencies that nourish and maintains all living things. When this energy flows uninterrupted there is balance and harmony within and around us, and we experience a sense of wonderful wellbeing.
Reiki (ray-key) is Japanese for ‘universal life energy’, and is also a word used to describe a system of natural healing.
There are many variations of Reiki, but in essence Reiki treatments can help the body emotionally and spiritually.
A Reiki treatment is a process that anyone can enjoy and it can be used alongside other conventional or complementary treatments often helping to provide emotional support during recovery. It is a non-invasive, non-diagnostic, non-manipulative treatment with no bodily pressure applied. It is a complementary therapy and can be given and received equally effectively hands on, hands-off or via distant healing.

The use of Reiki is not based on any belief or faith but scientific research (using quantum physics) has started to help us to understand how Reiki may work to benefit the individual.
It has been suggested that in years to come it may be known as ‘energy medicine’ based on scientifically measurable energy, emitted from the healer’s hands.
The only real way to understand Reiki is to try a treatment or two as it is something that needs to be experienced.
What happens during a session?
The first appointment will include a full consultation and explanation of what to expect. I will take a brief medical history and most likely ask you how your energy levels feel at that particular point of time.
There will be beautiful relaxing music playing at the time of the treatment which is calming but not invasive (music which is neutral and appropriate for eliciting visualisations of your very own Dreamscapes if they come to you)
You will be asked to remove your shoes before the treatment starts, but no other clothing needs to be removed.
If you are at ease to do so, lying on my treatment couch is comfortable and set at the correct height for me to work at, although a chair within your own home is also acceptable.
There are set hand positions for the administration of Reiki, which loosely correspond to the seven main Chakras in the body. This information has been passed down over the many years that Reiki has been practiced and taught. I have been trained in these hand positions and will use intuition to guide me on how long to use each position. I do tend to use a ‘hands-on’ approach however I will either intuitively know if this is required or not (or indeed if you ask for a hands-off treatment, of course I will comply)
Each hand position is a gentle ‘hold’ or ‘laying on of hands’ and usually clients find this very comforting and relaxing. Again, if the client wants to stop the treatment they are in full control and can halt the treatment at any time.
How often do I need a treatment?
Reiki is a holistic treatment and works well with traditional allopathic medicine. It can appear that the body is much more ready to ‘mend’ when Reiki is added into the equation. Like any medication, it is advisable to have a ‘course’ of Reiki treatments.
If you then book five (x5) further sessions with me, I will provide the sixth session free of charge.
